My Screen Capture Standby
- Easy to use – no training is required, the tools provided are beyond intuitive.
- Fast – with integration into your toolbar, you're never more than a click away from what you need.
- Sharable – literally (well not really, but you know what I mean) a million ways to share your output with co-workers or save for future use.
- Asset library – at times you might assume you can use Snagit as a low-budget wireframing tool, but the limited selection of available assets makes for rudimentary wireframes.
- Version history – an easier way to save versions would provide some next level capabilities to the suite of tools.
- Notes – would love to see a notes feature that lives outside of your actual screenshot.
- Online training and education -- tools are well suited for quick, in-the-moment lessons in sharing best practices.
- Video recording features seemingly improve with every new product release. This feature was once an afterthought for me but is now essential.
- Quick annotations are a breeze with Snagit, and they are super easy to share on the fly.
- You think this will be a design or wireframing tool. It is not made for that level of detail or professionalism. Screen captures are its calling card.
I Heart Snagit!
- Image editing.
- Copy/pasting/moving separate elements.
- Saving your work.
- Keyboard shortcuts.
- Sometimes the keyboard shortcuts stop working for no reason or it's VERY slow to respond to the capture command - like so slow that by then I've taken a manual screenshot and saved it....3 minutes later Snagit is ready to capture. Not sure why that happens!
- A better quick menu for inserting characters would be great.
- Would love more modern/improved stamp options.
- Would also love a way to set my own defaults for callouts, text, etc.
Simple, streamlined, and more than good enough for simple image editing and GIF creation
- Capturing videos, editing them, and saving as GIFs, all in the same software. The ability to remove the cursor from view is a particularly valuable to creating seamless, looping GIFs.
- The ability to create a set of stamps outside of Snagit then import them into Snagit has been great for our team. We can share a standardized set of stamps developed in Lucid Chart, great for numbering images.
- Editing images and adding highlight boxes is pretty simple and streamlined. It's not a power tool like Photoshop but it more than serves our needs. We mainly focus on minor image edits (removing elements, adjusting elements) and adding highlight boxes or stamps.
- Snagit's toolbar icon lets me easily capture videos and images, including controlling settings like whether or not to capture the cursor, right from my MacBook's toolbar.
- I'd love to see more video editing abilities. For example, adding a highlight box inside of a movie before saving it to a GIF.
- Snagit has limited font options when adding and editing text. Integrating with Google fonts or even adding support/making it clear how to add custom fonts would improve usability.
- Adding the ability to fill while erasing. For example, if erasing an element from a white background, auto-fill in the erased patch with white, or some other custom color. Instead, I have to rely on copy/pasting from other areas in the picture.
Snagit brings clarity to screenshots and communication, snagging time back in your day!
- Marking up screenshots in clear ways.
- selecting and allowing manipulation within screenshots (cropping, etc.).
- Blurring selectively without distracting.
- Unable to record video within an RDP session.
- Uses significant memory.
- Learning curve takes a little while but once you know the tool it works well.
Saves time!
- Capture all or part of a screen or capture a screen recording. I use Snagit to quickly show someone how to do something via screen video capture, or to mark up a screen capture with steps (1, 2, 3)
- Snagit houses all of your snips without having to save them. You can go back in time and find screen snips you took years ago where as with the snipping tool you need to save your snips.
- I love the call out feature, the highlighter, and the step features. It makes markup quick and easy.
- I wish Snagit had a record feature for webcam. I know I can use Camtasia, but I am always in Snagit and it would be helpful to have it there.
- The stamps are limited and you have to buy more if you want to add additional ones. I feel they should be included in the license cost.
- I wish there was a tool like photoshop where you can clone part of the picture. If I want to hide something, I have to create a shape the same color and insert it over where I cut it out.
Probably not appropriate if you want to create super custom-looking things as if you want to bring in other stamps etc, you need to purchase them. You could however get creative and save images you find online, and bring them in as part of your snag it, but that is a bunch of extra steps.
Snagit Review
- The layout is very simple and not clustered.
- Saves screenshots in one space to use access easily.
- The ability to share content to our SME’s for review.
- More options to share images.
- More visual options.
- Snagit provides easy screen capture when tied to the PrnScrn Windows keyboard key (or other assigned key).
- Once a region is captured, it is easily edited to reduce the image size and resolution as well as annotate with the highlighter, pointer, shape, and other "tools."
- Captures can then either be copied to the clipboard for pasting in emails or saved as files in various formats.
- I find the Snagit editor handy for editing existing images by cropping, resizing, annotating, etc. as an alternative to other image editors.
- Snagit can capture images that are larger than displayed by automatically scrolling the image. Sometimes, this does not work well; either the resulting image is not complete or not scrolled at all (version 13).
- Snagit has many functions and can get confusing. Basic functionality is easy, but some advanced features require a learning curve and viewing of tutorials.
- I find some settings are not remembered. For example, drawing a rectangle around something to highlight may hide what's inside the rectangle. I then have to undo that shape, enable a transparent fill (instead of white fill), and try again (version 13).
A simple choice for screen-capture
- Screenshot markup is fantastic and has become the standard for a simple workflow.
- Gif creation from videos/screen-recordings is a great feature.
- Training step layout is a promising new feature that can replace MS Word for basic process instruction.
- Combine the capture and editor tool into one. They have always been separate, but it would be less confusing for new users if they were just one program.
- Computer resource management. The program will take away some of your CPU and memory even when idle. I understand this for the video functionality, but I feel this is one area that could be optimized.
- Better editor toolbar. As Techsmith adds new features to the editor, they are hidden under a sub-menu of the main toolbar. This causes me to forget about some functionality because it is not front and center.
Should be much better by now, but it's not.
- It's very useful for sharing in a variety of formats
- It can be used to create a process video
- It's relatively inexpensive
- The annotation and editing tools are clunky
- The interface is unattractive and uninspired
- Trying to do anything more than the basic task of taking a screenshot is a nuisance.
Snagit Captures My Praise and My Screen
- Snagit handles delayed screenshots extremely well.
- Abilities to add frequent functions to your profile for quick access is a great time and effort saver.
- Seamless connection to video editing resources is a great bonus for increasing workflow efficiency.
- Snagit doesn't do a good job of remembering your last chosen file type. If I'm capturing and saving my images mostly to PNG, I would expect the application to save primarily to PNG.
- Likewise, an ability to apply a naming scheme to files would increase efficiency.
- Snagit isn't a full function image editor, but adding more tools to its belt would improve my likelihood to use this product exclusively.
I cannot live without SnagIt, its a condition of employment for me!
- Quick screen grabs to refer to later. They can reside in the library or be saved out in many different formats. I often grab a screenshot to have it one monitor while I move to a different part of the system I grabbed the screenshot from as a reference when making system changes.
- Once you capture the screenshot you can highlight, magnify, blur out, add a big red arrow etc. This is perfect for a quick email to someone to help support what they are trying to do or add to your documentation.
- The ability to select a region, window or many other quick tools really helps narrow down what you want to show.
- Panoramic capture is the bomb! You select your area, then start the capture then scroll through the data and it captures it all in one screenshot!
- You can create a quick video with a voice over and save as MPEG to send to a user or tech support to better explain than typing out what problem you are seeing.
- So easy to use and intuitive!
- I seriously can't think of one thing yet each time they have a release it has some new cool thing. I've been using them for 20 years and 3 different organizations and cannot live without this software.
Snagit review from a higher ed executive
- Works great on PC and Mac
- Records from Google Hangout and Skype sessions
- Webcam recording is easy to setup
- Perhaps include sharing functionality with other apps or social media
- Send screenshots to multiple target locations
- Bring back the text capture functionality, this was removed in version 12
Easy peasy screen shots and video captures
- Snagit makes it easy to screenshot a webpage or document that scrolls beyond what is currently visible on your screen. Very helpful for someone who works primarily off a small laptop all day.
- We heavily annotate screenshots for our help pages, FAQs, and when answering customer emails. Snagit has lots of helpful tools built in to do this easily and professionally.
- I've also used Snagit to create simple graphics too. It makes combining multiple image files and adding text really really easy.
- I would love to see them continue to expand their suite of tools you can use for video and editing.
- Similarly, they've done a good job of expanding their annotations and tools for design/graphics over the years and always love to see more of these.
Capture and Communicate Your Ideas with Snagit
- It provides a simple intuitive interface that makes the entire process of capturing and editing images easy. It also fits into my current design workflow seamlessly.
- It provides the ability to created animated gifs. This allows me to showcase how an interaction would look and work for my clients during the prototype and design phase.
- I also use it to provide feedback by capturing screen shots and making notes/comments for other developers.
- Automatically delete captures after a set period of time.
- Continue to make in-product help more adaptable to user's skill level.
- Additional filters that can be applied to image captures.
- screen captures for of images/videos
- annotating images
- cropping/editing
- creating animated gifs to show processes/interactions
- resizing images
- recording video of how tos
Snagit and Enhance It Quick and Easy
- Creating PNG files with a transparent background so they can be used within any media (word processors, presentation software, web pages).
- Quick videos are easily created within Snagit. These videos are a valuable tool for training as users can refer back to them when needed.
- The output accessories are great too. This allows integration with popular software and storage solutions.
- It is a great way to document steps on a screen print. The stamps tool has predefined styles of stamps that automatically increment when pasted on an image. So the user doesn't need to create a 1, 2, 3, etc.
- Quick and easy way to resize an image to fit your project. Much quicker than using a more expensive software tool.
- It would be beneficial to work with different layers before you "flatten" the image as a final project.
- Expansion of the available stamps.
- More refined selection capability when doing a scrolling capture.
